Art is Healthy!

January 14th, 2009 by julie

ArtIsHealthy.org, a subsidiary of the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Arts League ( a member of the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Arts Center), is a non-profit organization created to promote art appreciation and education. Our name, “Art Is Healthy”, stems from our ongoing efforts to have organized Art class reinstated at Ralph Askins Elementary after their removal this year in lieu of more physical education classes. It is well-known among educators at all levels that Art, and its appreciation, are a valuable and critical part of any young persons growth as a student. Thus, “Art Is Healthy” was born.

In our efforts to promote art in the community and the awareness of how critical it is to our youth, we have created the T-shirt shown, with original art work by local artist Joanna Caldwell. Each shirt is hand Signed and Numbered by Joanna. The funds generated by sponsorship and sale of these T-shirts makes possible our ability to provide art supplies to individuals, art scholarships to the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Arts League “Art Camps” and to create exposure to a broad array of art-related needs. Your tax-deductible donation or purchase of one of our original shirts could mean the promise of a creative and broad future for these children.

To purchase one of our great hand-signed and numbered shirts, please visit: Elk River Coffee, Kristi’s Chocolate Cafe, The Fayetteville/Lincoln County Art Center, The Bluefish Boutique or NDesigns

Hurry! There are only about 50 shirts left!

THANK YOU for your support! You will make a difference!

Christmas Art Contest Winners

January 14th, 2009 by julie

Bill Newman and ArtIsHealthy.org teamed up to sponsor a Christmas art contest at Ralph Askins Elementary School. Each student was asked to decorate a stenciled drawing of a Christmas tree. Mr. Newman awarded the following winners:

1st Place - Chelcea Mitchell, $40 Wal-Mart gift card

2nd Place - Daiten Trentham, $25 Wal-Mart gift card

3rd Place - Hallie Powers, $10 Wal-Mart gift card

The first place winners’ teacher, Mrs. Pat Bowers, received a $100 Wal-Mart gift card for art supplies in her classroom. These winners along with Mrs. Bowers also received an ArtIsHealthy.org t-shirt. During the Christmas season, the artwork created by all Ralph Askins students was on display in business windows around the Fayetteville square. What a joyful and festive thing it was to see such imaginative work done by these awesome kids. ArtIsHealthy.org has been so proud to be a part of this great project with Mr. Newman. We thank him again for his generosity and support! Way to go kids!
