Art Is Healthy!

At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, parents were informed that structured art class had been deleted from the school curriculum at Ralph Askins Elementary. Shortly thereafter, Joanna Caldwell, Cindy Kite, Kitty Marsh, Julie Miller and Alice Palacio presented their concerns to the Fayetteville City School Board, requesting that organized art class be reinstated for the current school year. The school board decided not to reinstate structured art class for 2007-2008.

We then put words in to action by creating the non-profit organization, ArtIsHealthy.org.

To help “get the word out” and raise money for this non-profit organization, local artist Joanna Caldwell designed a t-shirt for ArtIsHealthy.org. The proceeds from the sale of these hand-signed and numbered t-shirts will go to promote art education in our local community and create art scholarships to the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Arts League “Art Camps.” Our continuing efforts to have art reinstated at Ralph Askins Elementary is the foundation in which this organization was built.

As parents, educators, and concerned citizens, we know how critical and sometimes even life-changing art can be to our children. Thank you for your support!
